The Blue Family Fund, a local nonprofit that provides financial aid to families of fallen or injured first responders, made a donation to the family of Barbara Fenley, an Eastland County Sheriff’s Office deputy who died trying to save others in the  March wildfires.

Fenley was 51 years old and a sergeant with the sheriff’s office. Her husband, Joe, and son, Jon, accepted the donation at the Eastland County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, May 17.

Blue Family Fund is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2017 by Stacey and Michael Magovern, who own Lonestar Lake Spot just west of Breckenridge. Their mission is to provide financial aid to families of fallen or injured first responders.

The organization is funded through donations and with fundraiser events. All donations to the Blue Family Fund go to the families of first responders through scholarships to dependents of police officers or as aid to fallen officers’ families.
