Ardath Arnot Helstrom, 87, of Breckenridge, passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2022. Her graveside service at the Breckenridge Cemetery will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, with Genoa Goad officiating. Her interment will be under the direction of Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home.

Ardath Arnot was born on June 22, 1934, in Breckenridge, Texas, to parents William G. and Emily (Moore) Arnot. She was a lifelong resident of Breckenridge and graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1952. Then, in 1968, she married John Edwin (Ed) Helstrom.

Ardath was proud of her community and was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church. She was an employee of First National Bank for 47 years, the longest tenure of any employee. While working at the bank, she established many lasting friendships with fellow employees that continued throughout the years. Ardath, known as Sis to her family, lived a reserved, quiet, and uncomplicated life and was content being at home with her dog of many years. She was an avid reader, a student of the Bible, and walked in faith. She will be remembered warmly as being a loving, devoted, and loyal friend with a dry wit and sharp intellect.

Ardath was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; parents, William G. Arnot, Sr. and Emily Arnot; along with brothers, Ray, Roy, Bill, and Bobby Arnot. She is survived by one sister-in-law, Marguerite Arnot of Victoria, three nieces, two nephews, and many friends and co-workers.

The family would like to give special thanks to the caregivers of Villa Haven and especially to the staff of Solaris Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorials donations in Ardath’s name can be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Swenson Memorial Museum, both in Breckenridge, and can be left at Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home. Condolences can be made online at meltonkitchens.com.
