Tempie Cary, 85, of Breckenridge, passed away on Friday, February 18, 2022. Her cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home.

Tempie Joyce Smith was born on January 22, 1937, in Weatherford, Texas, to parents Henry and Nova (Higdon) Smith. On February 5, 1955, in Leuders, Texas, Tempie married Kenneth “Ken” Cary. She and Ken were travelers whose favorite destination was Estes, Colorado. So many memories were made with her family in Colorado on numerous vacations there. The couple was married for over 58 years until his passing in September 2013.

Tempie loved her family and enjoyed being in the kitchen either cooking or baking. She loved to look in magazines and recipe books for new things to try. She also loved to shop, read, work on jigsaw puzzles, play Scrabble, and being surrounded by her family while laughing and telling stories. She had a green thumb and liked to bird-watch from her patio full of plants. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and absolutely enjoyed being a wife, mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Tempie was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Cary; parents, Henry and Nova; son, Joe Cary; and sister, Lenis Stevens. She is survived by her sons, Steve Cary and wife Nancy of Mineral Wells, and Ken David Cary of Breckenridge; brother, George Smith; grandchildren, Denise Cary Barker of Mineral Wells, Scott Cary and wife Rhonda of Ellsworth AFB (South Dakota), and Marc Cary of San Antonio; along with nine great-grandchildren, Dalton, Cary, Maricella, Alyssa, Lilly, Abigail, Caden, Nolan, and Mallory.

Memorial donations in Tempie’s name can be made to the Stephens County Humane Society and can be left at the Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home office. Condolences can be made online at meltonkitchens.com.
