Brandie Cecil with Stephens Memorial Hospital was recently chosen as the recipient of Ranger College’s inaugural Preceptor Excellence Award, which honors an outstanding Level IV Capstone Preceptor who demonstrates commitment to excellence in the clinical education of Associate Degree nursing students.

“Huge thanks to Brandie for being an excellent Preceptor and helping to usher in a new group of rock star nurses,” Chris Curtis, director of business development at SMH, said in a news release.

She was nominated by one of her students, Janie Alapic. The nominees for the award were reviewed in a blind process by a committee from outside the Ranger College Associate Degree in Nursing program, and the committee chose Cecil.

“I really appreciated her taking the time to give me constructive criticism and help me learn how to be the best nurse possible,” Alapic said. “Her comments were always constructive and never made me feel bad about anything I was doing.”

Cecil said that winning the award has renewed her faith that she is where she is supposed to be and doing what she was called to do. “When I get a new student, the first thing I do is sit them down and discuss their strengths and weaknesses,” Cecil said. “I also ask them what they would like to get out of their time with me. Everyone has a different learning style, so I try to find out how they can get the best experiencing without putting them in a position they are uncomfortable with.”

She said she is honored to have been nominated and grateful to be chosen for the award.
