Many local businesses, offices to close for upcoming holidays

This Saturday, Dec. 25, will kick off three weekends of holidays for many local residents. Christmas Day will be Saturday, Dec. 25; New Year’s Day will be Saturday, Jan. 1; and, the Stephens County Junior Livestock Show will be Jan. 6-8.

Many businesses and government offices will be closed for the holidays. Here are some of the announced closures:

Christmas Holiday

The Stephens County Courthouse will be closed Thursday and Friday, Dec. 24 and 25, and the City of Breckenridge offices will be closed Friday, Dec. 24, and Monday, Dec. 27. The U.S. Postal Service will be closed on Saturday, Dec. 25, with no mail delivered on Christmas Day.

Additionally, banks will be closed on Friday, Dec. 24, and most businesses will be closed on Saturday, Dec. 25. Some businesses may be closed on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, or they may be closing early that day. Call ahead to check their hours, if you want to be sure.

Breckenridge Independent School District will be closed for the holidays through the beginning of January. Teachers and staff will return for a workday on Monday, Jan. 3, and the students will return on Tuesday, Jan. 4.

New Year’s Day

Although many retail businesses will be open on New Year’s Day, but since it’s on a Saturday this year, most government offices will be closed anyway. The Stephens County Courthouse will be closed on Monday, Jan. 3, and the City of Breckenridge offices will be closed on Friday, Dec. 31.  U.S. Mail will not be delivered on Saturday, Jan. 1.

Stephens County Junior Livestock Show

In Stephens County, the annual livestock show is a holiday. According to the official BISD schedule, school will be out early on Thursday, Jan. 6, and there will be no classes on Friday, Jan. 7. Regular classes will resume on Monday, Jan. 10. The stock show is scheduled for Jan. 6-8.

Other upcoming holidays

Monday, Jan. 17, 2022, is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday in the United States. The local schools and the U.S. Postal Service will be closed. Jan. 17 is also a holiday for the Federal Reserve, so banks may also be closed.
