Despite the chilly weather last Saturday, more than 30 runners and a few dogs participated in the seventh annual Wags and Whiskers 5K and Furry Fun Run benefiting the Stephens County Humane Society.

The fundraising event took place in the Breckenridge City Park on Saturday morning, Dec. 11. Twenty-five runners competed for medals in the 5K, and several others ran in the shorter Fun Run.

All proceeds from the race benefit the Stephens County Humane Society, which has had extra expenses since the closure of the City of Breckenridge animal shelter last year. The SCHS works with local residents and out-of-state groups to find temporary and permanent homes for the local animals awaiting adoption.
