Mary Alyce “Mickey” Garvin, 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior during the early morning hours of Monday, November 22, 2021.

She was born in Caddo, Texas, on December 7, 1932, to Vernium and Eva Reynolds Fox. Mickey was the youngest of five children.

After the family moved to Breckenridge, she attended Breckenridge High School. In 1949, at the age of 16, she married Ed Garvin. After graduating high school in 1951, she and Ed moved to Arlington, Texas. In 1962, they returned to Breckenridge where they lived for more than 47 years until Ed passed away in January of 2010. In 2014, Mickey moved to the DFW area where she could be closer to family.

Mickey loved spending time with family (the Garvin side and the Fox side), friends, traveling, and attending sporting events. She and Ed were huge fans and supporters of the Breckenridge Buckaroos and the TCU Horned Frogs. Mickey enjoyed playing Bunco with the girls, square dancing, getting her hair done every Friday, and her late-night phone conversations with family to find out the gossip for the day. She also loved spending time with family at the Possum Kingdom Lake cabin. The cabin was a gathering place, summer nights were spent sitting outside with a bag of goodies to “feed the critters.”

She was a typical Southern grandmother and would feed you until you burst. She loved baking and would call up each person prior to their birthday asking what their current favorite cake was so she could bring it to the celebration.

Mickey ended every goodbye with “a kiss, a hug and a squeeze around the neck” and a little wiggle to finish. Each happy visit would eventually come to an end though and Mickey could be seen on the porch waving goodbye with tears rolling down her face.

Disease took Mickey’s mind, but those that loved her will always have a lifetime of beautiful memories.

Mickey was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Carl Edwin “Ed” Garvin; her parents, Vernium and Eva Reynolds Fox; her sisters, Hazel and husband Leo Singer, Billye Jo and husband Edward Waters, Francys and husband John Gillespie; and brother, James and wife Mary Fox.

She is survived by her sons, Danny and wife Katie Garvin of Crawford, Texas, and Steve and wife Sherry Garvin of Highland Village, Texas; grandchildren, Jessica and husband Mandel Gordon of Plano, Texas, Emily Garvin of Dallas, Texas, David and wife Ashley Garvin of Dallas, Texas, Matthew and wife Kim Garvin of Dallas, Texas, Kevin Garvin of Las Colinas, Texas, Kasey and husband Shane LaCanne of Salado, Texas, and Cullin Smith of Arlington, Virginia. She was blessed with nine great-grandchildren and a plethora of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

A special thank you to the Reynolds family, especially Jeanne “Tuttie” Reynolds, and Yvonne and Robert Sharp for their love and care of Mickey.

There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at the Morehart Mortuary in Breckenridge, Texas. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. and the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., with graveside service immediately following at the Breckenridge Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Center for Brain Health at the University of Texas Dallas (www.centerforbrainhealth.org) or Meals on Wheels of Breckenridge, P.O. Box 16, Breckenridge, TX 76424, and may be left at Morehart Mortuary.
