The recent redistricting of Texas congressional districts will put Stephens County in a new U.S. House of Representatives district, District 25, which is currently represented by Roger Williams, who will be in Breckenridge for a meet-and-greet at 4 p.m. today, Monday, Nov. 8, at Texas State Technical College’s Technology Center, 307 N. Breckenridge Ave.

However, for the next 14 months, Representatives August Pfluger and Jodey Arrington will continue to represent Stephens County in congress. The current congressional map has Stephens County split, with the southern half in District 11, represented by Pfluger, and the northern half in District 19, represented by Arrington.

On Oct. 25, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed into law the new congressional map. For the sake of the upcoming congressional elections, the law will go into effect on Jan. 18, 2022. For the November 2022 election, Stephens County will be in the newly redrawn District 25.

But, for the rest of 2021 and throughout 2022, the county will continue to be in Districts 11 and 19 in regards to current representation. In other words, until a new representative is elected by the citizens of the district(s), Plfuger and Arrington are still responsible for representing Stephens County in Washington, D.C.

“The changes the State Legislature enacted go into effect in 2023. Until then, my commitment to serve all 29 counties currently in the district remains steadfast,” Pfluger said about the redistricting.

Williams currently represents District 25, which includes Bosque, Burnet, Coryell, Hamilton, Hill, Johnson, Lampasas, and Somervell counties and parts of Bell, Erath, Hays, Tarrant, and Travis counties. He has declared his candidacy for the new District 25, which will include Stephens, Young, Jack, Palo Pinto, Eastland, Erath, Comanche, Hood and Somervell counties, and parts of Parker, Callahan, Tarrant and Johnson counties.
