Susan Diane Hare was born Susan Diane Cooper on July 17, 1946, in Eastland, Texas. Her parents were Geneva and John Cooper. Growing up, Susan excelled in school and enjoyed water skiing. She graduated from Breckenridge High School then attended Texas Tech University. She was a devoted Red Raider fan and a Dallas Cowboy fan; but most of all, her favorite team was the Breckenridge Buckaroos. She married Jackie Tilman Hare on December 3, 1966, in Breckenridge at the First Christian Church. Together, they had two boys, John Houston Hare and Samuel Nathan Hare. Susan loved her husband and sons endlessly and devoted her life to being a loving wife and mother.

Susan was a very proud and passionate Texan woman. She was a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Specifically, she was a member of the Picketville DRT Chapter, where she served as their Chaplain. Susan was very active in her DRT chapter and got her granddaughters — Karlie, Katie, and Jaycie Hare — involved with the Children’s Republic of Texas. She loved attending conventions, meetings, and trips with her granddaughters and fellow DRT/CRT members.

She was a proud grandmother who loved her grandkids endlessly. Most importantly, she was a loving and devoted Christian. She had a lot of love for her church and her church family.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, John and Geneva Cooper, and sister, Kathryn Anne. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Jack Hare; sons, John Houston Hare and wife Amy and Samuel Nathan Hare and wife Holly; granddaughters, Karlie Mackenzie Hare, Katie Elizabeth Hare, and Jaycie Grace Hare; grandsons, Blaine Whitley Hare, Samuel Cinch Hare, Triston Tawater and wife Raymie, and John Tawater. She is also survived by her cousins, Deelores June Cooper, Darla Hollansdworth, and Butch Cooper.

Memorial donations in Susan’s name can be made to the DRT Picketville Chapter or the Fosters Home for Children and may be left at the Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home office. Condolences can be made online at meltonkitchens.com.
