Today, after 14 years of covering the news, sports and entertainment in Breckenridge, Jean Hayworth retires from the Breckenridge American. Tomorrow, she will celebrate her 80th birthday.

Hayworth joined the local newspaper staff in 2007, a couple of years after she retired from Breckenridge Independent School District, where she had taught for 25 years. Prior to her teaching career, she was in the U.S. Navy.

She will be honored with a retirement reception from 1 to 2 p.m. today, Sept. 1, at the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce office, 100 E. Elm St.

Over the past several years that we’ve been working alongside Hayworth, Breckenridge Texan Publisher Tony Pilkington has been shooting photos of her on the job. Click here to take a look at his photo gallery tribute to Jean Hayworth.
