Breckenridge’s National Theatre will host a concert by Chris Beall on Tuesday, Aug. 24.

The concert is sponsored by the Texas Commission on the Arts and will be free to the public. The concert is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., and the doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

According to an article in the Abilene Reporter-News last month, Beall grew up in Abilene and was in an Abilene-based band, The Expense, 30 years ago. His newest album, titled “Abilene,” will be released next month.

Beall is a singer/songwriter/guitarist whose music has been featured on numerous Americana radio stations and music venues. Drawing influence from musicians such as Tom Petty, Charlie Robison, Paul McCartney, and the storytelling style of Bruce Springsteen, Beall considers himself an independent artist and “the poster child for the new ‘alternative music industry.'”

According to his promotional materials, Beall offers “a driving roots-rock, full-band show that will have city dwellers rocking their country boots off while taking their hearts back to the country.”

Along with his solo career, he is a member of the South Austin Moonlighters whose album, Travel Light, went to No. 1 on the Alternative Country Roots Radio Report in 2019.

“Chris’s imagery-filled musical stories ‘fit back together’ music and family, creativity and making a living, life and religion, and whiskey and church,” his bio states.

The TCA’s Texas Touring Arts Program is designed to ensure that all Texans have the ability to enjoy performances by Texas-based companies and artists in their own communities. The commission provides grants to help with the costs of bringing in companies and artists from the roster for performances.

The National Theatre is located at 116 E. Walker St.
