A Breckenridge teen was transported by air ambulance from the helipad at Stephens Memorial Hospital on Saturday evening, Aug. 7, following an accident on East Walker Street.

According to people at the scene of the accident, the 14-year-old was reportedly skateboarding down the sidewalk along the north side of the Breckenridge City Park when he fell off the skateboard and hit a flatbed trailer being pulled by a Chevy pickup traveling east on Walker Street. The Breckenridge Police Department could not confirm that information or comment on the specifics of the incident since it is still under investigation.

The accident happened in the 500 block of East Walker, about 40 yards east of the park’s entrance.

According to BPD Capt. Jay Walker, the call came into the dispatch office at 8:19 p.m., and the Breckenridge Police Department, Breckenridge Fire Department, Stephens County Sheriff’s Office and AMR ambulance service responded to the scene.

The driver of the pickup stopped immediately and has been completely cooperative with the investigation, he said.

“It’s still under investigation, but it looks like it’s just an accident,” Walker said.

The fire department used one of their large fire trucks to block traffic on Walker Street, which was shut down temporarily while the emergency responders assisted the injured teen and investigated the accident.
