Breckenridge’s 7 on 7 football team traveled to College Station this week to play in the Division II State Championship tournament. After winning four of their first five games, the Buckaroos lost in the quarterfinal game Friday afternoon, June 25, to Dumas by one point, 26-25.

The Buckaroos started out the tournament on Thursday, winning two of their three games to advance to the Championship Bracket.

Thursday’s games:

  • Breckenridge 21 – Jourdanton 6
  • Breckenridge 13 – Kaufman 18
  • Breckenridge 20 – Lake Belton 13

The Buckaroos then began Friday’s single elimination play by beating Silsbee 20-12, before going on to win over Carthage 18-7.

They then advanced to the quarterfinals to face Dumas. After winning that round, Dumas went on to lose against Kaufman, 20-7. In the final championship game, Kaufman beat Argyle 20-13.

In a message on the SportsYou app, Breckenridge Independent School District Athletic Director Casey Pearce said, “Sure excited about Buckaroo Pride! Thanks to every individual, parent, and player that contributed to the 7 on 7 group. Our players are the most event tempered, high character kids this staff has been associated with. … People need to get ready. We have excitement and momentum going into 2021. Go Bucks!”
