A Stephens County man was transported by air ambulance Thursday night from the Stephens County Airport following a one-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 183 South.

The driver of a pickup was first transported to the airport from the crash scene by a ground ambulance after the pickup crashed through a fence and traveled several yards across a pasture. Several emergency vehicles could be seen in the pasture lighting up the crash scene, and several other emergency vehicles were lined up on the shoulder of the southbound side of the highway.

The accident occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m. Thursday on the west side of the highway just past the city limits, across the highway from a trucking company parking lot. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Breckenridge Fire Department rescue units, Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, Breckenridge Police Department, two AMR ambulances and the Department of Public Safety responded to the call.
