Karen D. Wood, 68, of Breckenridge, passed away on March 26, 2021, in Abilene. There will be a memorial service held at 2 p.m. April 1, 2021, at the Melton Kitchens Funeral Home with Jason Martin officiating the service. A visitation will take place in the Family Life Center at First Baptist Church from 12:30 – 1:30, April 1, 2021.

Karen was born Karen Darlene Halcomb, on July 30, 1952, to Garland and Ruth Halcomb. Karen attended Amon Carter High School in Fort Worth in 1968; then she furthered her education by attending the Mary Droughton Business School. Shortly after graduation from business school, Karen had her one and only child, Bryan, on December 25th of that year. Their family became complete on June 27, 1972, when Karen married James (Jim) Wood. They had many adventures together. They both loved hunting, fishing, camping, and playing and kind of board games. They built their home together in Gorman, Texas. Karen loved many things, but above all she loved her grandchildren and great-grandson.

Karen was preceded in death by her husband, James (Jim) Wood; her father and mother, Garland and Ruth Halcomb; and her best friend and sister Sherry Curry.

Karen is survived by her son, Bryan Wood, and wife Shonda, of Breckenridge; two grandsons, JT Wood of San Angelo and Zak Wood and wife Promise of Breckenridge; one granddaughter, Kayla Wood of Breckenridge; and one incredible great-grandson, Ezra Wood of Breckenridge. She is also survived also by her niece, Shelly Smith Hayes and husband David of Mansfield; and two great-nephews, Alex and Dylan Oldham, also of Mansfield.

Donations in memory of Karen can be made to the Hendricks Hospice facility of Abilene and may be left at the Melton Kitchens Funeral Home office. Condolence may be made at meltonkitchens.com.
