Mattie Nichols, age 79, of Graham, formerly of Breckenridge, passed away Friday, March 12, 2021. Graveside funeral services will be held in the Breckenridge Cemetery at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, with Bishop W.C. Roach officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

Mattie Virginia Fenton was born April 14, 1941, in Lubbock, Texas, to John Paul Fenton and Ester Bell Geyer Fenton. Mattie was in the restaurant business for forever and will be remembered for the famous food she served at The Anchor in Breckenridge. On December 23, 2011, she married Benny Eldridge in Graham. She loved going “catching” instead of fishing but never did like baiting the hook or taking the fish off the hook.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her previous husband, Billy C. Nichols; eleven siblings; and two grandsons, Cody Critchfield and Jerad Phillips.

Mattie is survived by her husband, Benny Eldridge of Graham; two sons, Shawn Critchfield and wife Vicky of Breckenridge, and Billy Nichols and wife Tracy of Amarillo; one daughter, Stacey Phillips and husband Kevin of Amarillo; two sisters, Janelle Beggs of Tulsa, and Betty Lueg of Pflugerville; six grandchildren, Heather Pettke and husband Dustin, Misty Gabriel and husband Scott, Bud Taylor, Billy Nichols III and wife Lauren, Holly Brundage and husband Rydell, and Kassady Dodson and husband Michael ; seventeen great-grandchildren.
