Marylu Pearson was born in Breckenridge, Texas, on September 6, 1932, to parents Boyd and Frances (Owens) Pearson. After graduating from Breckenridge High School, she attended and graduated from Hardin Simmons University with a degree in elementary education — having also taken many art and music classes.

Marylu was married to her husband, Charlie, for over 50 years. Marylu and Charlie each have a child from a previous marriage – Lisa Ann (Harvill) Turner and Elizabeth Grace “Liz” (Elich) Young, respectively – as well as a child together, Paul Ray Elich.

She spent most of her teaching career in the Breckenridge school system, teaching first through fifth grades. She put on many musical school programs over the years, particularly enjoying presentations of Texas history. After she retired, she continued working with students as a mentor for several years.

Marylu loved her church, First Presbyterian Church in Breckenridge, and was the organist at the church for many years. She also loved singing in the choir, when not playing piano or organ, and she spent many happy hours decorating the church bulletin board according to the various seasons of the church year and for the holidays. She also participated in Bible study and mission activities. She liked to paint and draw, doing many art projects. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels or just took food by for people on her own.

Marylu was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Ralph W. Pearson, of Washington, Missouri.

She is survived by her husband, Charlie; daughter, Lisa, and son-in-law, George Erwin Turner, of Gold Canyon, Arizona; son, Paul, and daughter-in-law Michelle Elich, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; and her stepdaughter, Liz, of Fort Worth. She is also survived by a host of grandchildren: Alexandria Ann Turner of Loveland, Colorado; Kyle Matthew Elich and Mark Edward Elich of Chattanooga, Tennessee; Erin Elizabeth Elich of Nashville, Tennessee; April Michelle Young of Washington, DC; and John Christopher Young of Weatherford, Texas. A niece, nephew, and two great grandchildren also survive her.
