Breckenridge schools close due to winter weather; other delays announced

With Stephens County included in the area of Texas that is expected to get freezing drizzle or light freezing rain today, Thursday, Feb. 11, several closings and delayed starts have been announced.

The Breckenridge Texan has received notice of the following weather-related delays:

  • After first announcing a delayed start for Breckenridge schools, BISD Superintendent Bryan Allen announced shortly before 7:30 a.m. that all Breckenridge ISD schools will be closed Thursday, Feb. 11, due to the winter weather. “We have continued to monitor the weather and roads,” he posed on the BISD website. “We have also been in contact with the Breckenridge PD. The roads in town continue to be very hazardous and a light drizzle is forecast throughout the morning. With that, Breckenridge ISD has decided to cancel classes today. Since tomorrow and Monday were scheduled student holidays, students will return to class on Tuesday. Please stay off the roads today if possible…they are really slick!”
  • The Stephens County Courthouse will open at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, Feb. 11.
  • Breckenridge’s Texas State Technical College campus will have a delayed start of 10 a.m. be closed Thursday, Feb. 11 for all face-to-face classes. Classes prior to 10 a.m. are canceled. All online classes will continue as normal. This will not affect any remote operations, only those physically on campus.
  • Breckenridge City offices will open at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, Feb. 11.
  • All ResourceCare locations will have a delayed opening of 10 a.m. noon on Thursday, Feb. 11. If you already have a morning appointment scheduled, a staff member will be calling you to reschedule.
  • Junior Buckaroo Academy daycare is closed today, Feb. 11.
  • The Chick-Fil-A fundraiser for South Elementary’s fifth-grade Science Camp trip has been rescheduled for Thursday, Feb. 18. The pre-paid sandwiches were scheduled to be handed out today, but due to today’s winter weather, they will be available for pick-up from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18.
  • The Breckenridge High School softball and baseball scrimmages scheduled for Friday and Saturday have been canceled.
