Jess “Jay” Waggoner, age 91, of Breckenridge, passed away Friday, January 22, 2021. His family will hold a memorial service at a later date.

Jess Oliver Waggoner, Jr. was born May 23, 1929, in Wink, Texas, to Jess Oliver Waggoner, Sr., and Augusta Pearl Brannan Waggoner. The Waggoners moved to Breckenridge, and Jay graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1947. Mr. Waggoner then enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1948 until his honorable discharge in 1952. Following his military service, he continued his education at Ranger College and graduated with an associate’s degree in business. He married Joyce Slaton in September of 1955 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He worked as a plant operator for TXU and Ensearch Processing until he retired in 1993.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; one daughter, Rose Lee Kan; granddaughter, Vicky Lanell Whitmire; brother, Doyle Waggoner; and sisters, Nell Sanders, Janis Tyson and Jean Jenson.

Mr. Waggoner is survived by one brother, Dan Waggoner of Breckenridge; two grandsons, Deryle Abraham and wife Dena of Breckenridge, and Charles “Corky” Abraham of Breckenridge; one granddaughter, Brandie Mullink and husband Steve of Gerard, Illinois; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Necessity Cemetery Association or charity of your choice and may be left at Morehart Mortuary. Condolences may be made online at www.morehartmortuary.net.
