Maria Marentes was born on March 5, 1942, in Tierra Blanca, Zacatecas, Mexico, to Jovita and Teodulo Puebla. She was a great, genuine and faithful woman. To describe our mother is a hard challenge as it’s difficult to describe someone like her. At a young age she lost her mother, and her father and sister helped raise her. Despite her narrow circumstances, she became a strong woman, she was a warrior with high values, and a hard worker. She was the head of her 8 children and was there with them for each and everyone of their triumphs and defeats. She was always a phone call away and attentive to their worries and always praying for them even in her last moments. She was there for everyone and tried her best to help and contribute to others. Her life was full of hard work, effort and dedication to accomplish one objective, to make sure she provided everything necessary for her family. She was extremely hard-working, she achieved her goals and enjoyed them. She didn’t mind doing any type of honest job in order to succeed and she achieved it. A woman who maybe be comparable to others, but none like her. Our queen, our hero… that’s our mother.

Survivors include her daughters, Martha De La Cruz and husband Antonio from Mexico, Celina Marentes and her husband Luis from Denver, Maricela Marentes from Mexico, Miriam Marentes from Breckenridge, and Jatnely Gonzalez and her husband Jorge from Pennsylvania; her sons, Cruz Marentes and his wife Silvia from Munday, Salvador Marentes and his wife Teresa from Breckenridge, and Jesus Marentes from Breckenridge; her sister Maria Sofia Puebla De Moreno and her sons and daughters from Mexico. Maria Marentes had 19 grandchildren and 17 great- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Salvador Marentes, her parents, and her half-brother Fidel Puebla.
