John R. Harrison, 65, passed away on Monday, November 9, 2020. A graveside service will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the Breckenridge Cemetery on Monday, November 16, 2020, under the direction of Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home. Danny Lee will officiate the service.

John Russell Harrison was born on August 30, 1955, in Kermit, Texas, to Bobby Gene and Joann Hale Harrison. He met the love of his life and wife of 45 years, Marsha Mercer, while they both attended Breckenridge High School. After graduation they moved to Denton, Texas, where Johnny attended the University of North Texas and started a career in photojournalism.

Johnny loved spending time with his family and playing with his dog, Renley. He never met a stranger and was always ready with a silly joke. His wife, son, and grandchildren were his world and it’s hard to find a picture of Johnny without a grandkid on his lap. He enjoyed fishing and you could usually find him doing something outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bob Harrison; mother, Joan Claxton; and stepfather, J.C Claxton.

He is survived by his wife, Marsha Harrison; son Keith Harrison; sister Cindy Coapland and her husband Dudley Coapland; grandchildren, Shayli Harrison, Anna Harrison and Connor Russell Harrison; sister-in-law Karen Guynes and her husband Carl Guynes; nephews, Brent Coapland and his wife Breanne Coapland, Brad Coapland and his wife Ambra Coapland, Brett Coapland and his wife Kaci Coapland, Bobby Guynes, and Kevin Guynes; and nieces, Krissie Diaz and husband Chris Diaz, and Skylar Guynes.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Johnny’s name can be made to the Stephens County Humane Society and can be left at the funeral home office. Condolences can be made online at meltonkitchens.com.
