Joyce Breeden
Joyce Breeden, age 84, of Breckenridge, passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2020. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 10, in the Breckenridge Cemetery with Jaclyn Morehart officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.
Flora Joyce Holberg was born September 13, 1936, to parents, Floyd A. Holberg and France F. Llewellyn Holberg in Denver, Colorado. She was raised in Denver and later moved to San Diego, California. Joyce worked as an accountant for several years. On December 30, 1979, she married Ollie “Gene” Breeden in San Diego. The two enjoyed spending time together, and Joyce once stated her fondest memory was her trip to Hawaii in 1980 with Gene. She was a member of the San Diego Amateur Hockey Association and the Mission Bay Boat and Ski Club, where she served as Treasurer. Joyce was an avid San Diego Padres fan and enjoyed drawing, painting, crocheting and doing ceramics. She loved her dogs and was a loving wife and mother.
Mrs. Breeden was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and France Holberg; and her husband, Ollie “Gene” Breeden.
Mrs. Breeden is survived by three children, Henry C. Walker and wife Dianne of El Cajon, California, John Wesley Breeden and wife Laura of Lewisville, Joanna Kay Coleman of Prosper; one sister, Jean Louise Holberg Drake and husband Bruce of Aiken, South Carolina; three grandchildren, Henry Quentin Walker, Brenna Nicole Walker, Cameron Cash Coleman and wife Kayla; great grandchild, Rowen Coleman; and her niece and nephew, Jennifer Culpepper and Ryan Drake.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Breast Cancer Society and may be left at Morehart Mortuary. Condolences may be made online at www.morehartmortuary.net.

The organization aims to raise $4,000, which could be tripled to $12,000 through various matching programs, including the NewsMatch program and the Rural Partner Fund, which is supported by several major foundations.
Founded in 2017 by journalists Tony Pilkington and Carla McKeown, the Breckenridge Texan provides daily local news coverage, weekly newsletters, photo galleries, a community calendar, and obituaries. The outlet serves both local residents and people outside the community seeking information about Breckenridge and Stephens County, including potential new residents and businesses. They chose the non-profit structure to maintain local control of news coverage while minimizing the financial burden on the community.
