Since shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States, the day has been observed as Patriot Day, honoring the victims of the attacks and rescue operations, as well as the surviving heroes who rushed to the scenes to rescue people.

This morning’s event began with BHS sophomore Avery Rodgers singing the National Anthem. Then, Breckenridge police officers Justin Rose and Noah Gray, who are both BHS graduates, spoke to the students about loyalty, service and sacrifice. Before becoming a police officer, Rose served six years in the U.S. Army in the 82nd Airborne Division.

BHS coach Mark Young fired up the crowd with a rousing speech on the sacrifice so many Americans made following the attacks on the World Trade towers on Sept. 11, 2001.

The varsity football team plays its first home game of the season, beginning at 7:30 p.m. tonight, Friday, Sept. 11, in Buckaroo Stadium. They will take on the Cisco Loboes. Click here for information on purchasing tickets to the game online.
