Stephens County was featured in the September 2020 issue of Texas County Progress, including with a photograph of the courthouse on the magazine’s cover.

The story is in the publication’s “Monuments of Justice” section that highlights a different county every month. The magazine is the official publication of the County Judges and Commissioners Association of Texas.

The article gives Stephens County the opportunity to spotlight the community and the courthouse.

“We were very honored to be featured in that magazine,” Stephens County Judge Michael Roach said. “County Progress goes to all 254 counties; it’s the voice of county government in the State of Texas. It’s the only publication of its kind, that I’m aware of.”

The article provides architectural details about the Stephens County Courthouse, as well as a history of this courthouse and the ones that came before it.

Additionally, the story includes historical and current information about the county.

The cover photo and the photo accompanying the article, which showcases the county’s large American flag draped over the front of the courthouse, were provided by Roach.
