Breckenridge ISD gears up for new school year, which will start on Aug. 19
With teachers joining administrators on campus this week, Breckenridge Independent School District is gearing up for the 2020-2021 school year, which is on track to start for students on Wednesday, Aug. 19. The first holiday of the new year, Labor Day, will take place two and a half weeks later on Sept. 7.

Last month the BISD administrators announced their plan for the school year, which will include quite a few changes from past years. Because of concerns about COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel (new) coronavirus, students will have the option of attending classes in-person or online. Additionally, students will be expected to practice social distancing and may be asked to wear a mask or other face covering in some situations.
Unrelated to the coronavirus situation, North Elementary was closed over the summer, leading to a redistribution of the grade levels. East Elementary now will be for students in Pre-Kindergarten through second grade; South Elementary will be for students in third, fourth and fifth grades; Breckenridge Junior High will be for students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades; and Breckenridge High School will for for students in ninth through twelfth grades.
