Rita “Nell” Waggoner, 80 of Breckenridge, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2020. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, in the Melton-Kitchens Chapel of Memories with Danny Lee officiating the service.

Rita Juanell Waggoner was born to parents Jess and Pearl Waggoner in Breckenridge, Texas, on April 24, 1940. “Nell,” as she was commonly called, was born and raised right here in the town she dearly loved. One of the fond memories of Nell’s children were times when their parents would sit around, singing songs and playing the guitar together as a family. Nell was known to be somewhat of a world traveler through her love of going on cruises. Her cruise trips were noted by her many photos that she leaves behind. Some of the many things Nell loved doing included working in her yard, sewing, and crafting, but most of all her favorite pastime was enjoying Hallmark movies. Nell was a true Hallmark movie expert as she personally documented each title, main actors, and themes to include her own summaries and personal commentary of Hallmark’s finest films in seasonal notebooks she proudly displayed in her home. As an aspiring interior designer, Nell created her own homemade renditions of creative rooms and décor for individuals interested in redecorating their homes.

The most important part of Nell’s active life was building lasting memories with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. Nell was preceded in death by her parents, Jess and Pearl Waggoner; sisters, Gene Jensen and Janis Tyson; brother, Doyle Waggoner,; her first husband, Kenneth Thames Sr.; her second husband, Ardyce Sanders; daughter, Janet Boggess; and sons-in-law, Randy Boggess and Jeff Gandy; daughter-in-law, Barbara Thames; nephew, Douglas Waggoner; and great-nephew, Jimbo Adams.

She is survived by two brothers, Jay and Dan Waggoner; a beloved sister-in-law, Eulalia Waggoner; son, Kenneth Thames Jr.; daughter, Kathy Gandy; nieces and nephews; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made in memory of Nell to a charity of the donor’s choice and may be left at the Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home office. Condolences may be made at meltonkitchens.com
