The Stephens Memorial hospital nursing staff and administrators gathered Wednesday afternoon, June 3, for a celebration of having gone 225 days without a patient falling in any inpatient rooms or the emergency room.

Christy Begeman, Chief Nursing Officer at SMH, said the improvement of no patient falls can be credited to several things, including new signs posted above the patient beds in the rooms that say “call, don’t fall,” improved bed and chair alarms in the patient rooms that ring to the nursing station when they need help, educating the staff about preventing falls, and the staff’s hard work to prevent falls.

The 225 days with no falls beats the hospital’s previous best of 211 days with no falls.
