Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce to host annual awards ceremony on Feb. 13
The Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce’s annual awards ceremony will be Thursday, Feb. 13, at First United Methodist Church’s Christian Life Center.
The Chamber will present awards for 2019 Citizen of the Year, 2019 Ag Citizen of the Year, 2019 Business of the Year, 2019 Educator of the Year, and 2019 Civic Organization of the Year. This year’s guest speaker will be Cleo Stewart Jaton, owner of Sachian Yoga & Meditation Studio in Woodville.
The event will begin at 6 p.m. and will be catered by Pit Stop Bar-B-Q. The evening’s menu will include pork chops with a Jack Daniels Bourbon glaze, mixed vegetables, au gratin potatoes, and a garden salad. Water and tea, both sweet and unsweet, will be available to drink, and chocolate sheet cake will be served for dessert.
Admission tickets to the event cost $12 (cash or check) and can be purchased at the Chamber office, 100 E. Elm St., during regular business hours. The Chamber is asking for those who plan to attend to let them know by Friday, Feb. 7. There will be a limited number of tickets available at the door. The awards ceremony is a public event, open to everyone, not just Chamber members.
New to the awards ceremony this year is the “What I Love About Breckenridge” essay contest for Breckenridge Independent School District students.
Students who want to enter the contest need to write a short essay (100 words for grades K-6, and 250 words for grades 7-12) detailing what what they love about Breckenridge. The essays need to be turned into the school office by noon on Wednesday, Feb. 5. The Chamber will then choose a winning essay from each age group. The two winners will then be guests at the awards ceremony and will get to read their essays to the audience.
The winners will each receive a $100 Visa gift card upon reading their essay.
