Pat was born September 30, 1931, to Joseph and Janie Marsee in Duke, Oklahoma. Pat lived in the Breckenridge area since the late 1930s. She graduated and went to cosmetology school. Later she met Charlie Griggs in the late fifties and fell in love. They married September 9, 1960, in Eastland County. They were married for almost fifty years before Charlie passed away.

Whether she was known to you as “Pat,” “Nana,” or “Nana Pat,” everyone that came to know her came to love her. Being a beauty operator was her passion, and she did hair in Breckenridge for some forty plus years. In her spare time, she loved to paint, for which she had a natural talent and ability and did so as much as she could. Pat was a member of Necessity Baptist Church and very involved in the Necessity Baptist Ladies Group. She adored her beloved daughter, Susan, and her grandchildren; any time spent with family was always time well spent to her. She volunteered at many places in Breckenridge over the past several years including the Breckenridge Fine Arts Center, Breckenridge Library, the hospital and doing crafts at Villa Haven Health & Rehab Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Charlie Griggs.

Pat is survived by her daughter, Susan Shortes and husband Darrell of Breckenridge; sisters, Barbara Elliott and husband Ted of Abilene, Texas, and Freida Hamner of Abilene; granddaughters, Marsee Fuller and husband Forrest of Breckenridge, Sumer Russell and husband Roy of Breckenridge, Shelby Kennedy and husband Ky of Breckenridge; grandsons, Seth Shortes and wife Anna of Breckenridge, and Zach Shortes and wife Jessie of Breckenridge; great-grandchildren, Kadynce Kennedy, Sidney Russell, Wyatt Burns, Ben Russell, Krawford Kennedy, Swenson Shortes and Slone Shortes; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She will never be far from our thoughts and her smile missed at family events.

Memorials can be made to the Breckenridge Meals on Wheels or the church she dearly loved, Necessity Baptist Church. Condolences can be made at www.meltonkitchens.com.
