Nominations for annual Chamber awards are due Friday
The Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce will present two new awards, in addition to the traditional honors, at its annual ceremony next month, and the community has the opportunity to submit nominations through Friday, Jan. 24.
On Feb. 13, the Chamber will present the awards for the 2019 Citizen of the Year, Ag Citizen of the Year, Business of the Year, as well as two new awards — Educator of the Year and Civic Organization of the Year. The awards, which will be presented at the 2020 Awards Ceremony, will honor those who made significant contributions to the community in 2019.
“We just want to recognize more of the people who make Breckenridge what it is,” said Carrie Holson, Executive Director of the Breckenridge Chamber about the new awards. “One of the groups that kind of gets overlooked is our civic organizations, so we’ve added an award for that.”
Likewise, the Chamber wants to make sure local educators are recognized for their work. Nominees for the new Educator of the Year can be any local educator from any of the Breckenridge Independent School District campuses or from Texas State Technical College, she said.
To nominate someone for any of the awards, click here to visit the Chamber’s website and fill out the online form. The deadline to submit a nomination will be 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24.
Last year’s honorees were:
- Barbara Thornton — Citizen of the Year
- Breckenridge Auto and Engine Supply — Business of the Year
- Jessie Shortes — Ag Citizen of the Year
