Willie Mae Davenport, 73 of Breckenridge, Texas, passed away peacefully surround by her loved ones January 3, 2020, in Abilene. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at 9 a.m. at the Melton Kitchens Chapel of Memories with Rev. Clarence Holliman officiating. The family will welcome friends on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, from 6-7 p.m. in the chapel. The interment will follow the service at Breckenridge Cemetery under the direction of Melton Kitchens Funeral Home.

Willie Mae was born February 22, 1946, in Waco, Texas, to Laurnizo and Myrtle Hicks. She later moved to Hobbs, New Mexico, in the late fifties with her family. Willie Mae went to school there in Hobbs. She was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church in Waco, and then a member of Lane Chapel in Hobbs and her final place of worship was at Williamson Chapel C.M.E. in Breckenridge. Willie Mae sang in the choir and was secretary of the stewardess board. She was a housekeeper for several families in the Breckenridge area for most of her career until she could not work any longer.

Willie Mae married Joseph Earl Davenport in 1967 in Albany, Texas.

She leaves to mourn two children, Marvie Jo Davenport of Fort Worth and Stephen Davenport and fiancé, Natasha of Abilene; sister, Marie Hicks of Fort Worth; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-great-grandchild. There were numerous nieces and nephews and friends too many to count. Willie Mae preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Kim Anderson; and a grandson, Elijah Pierson.
