Donna Jean Corbett

Donna Jean Waller Corbett, 92, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2019, in Graham. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, November 10, 2019, at the First Christian Church of Breckenridge with Charles Kuhn officiating. Burial will follow at the Bee Branch Cemetery. The interment is under the direction of Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home. The family will receive guests at the Ranch Headquarters following the burial.

Donna Jean was born to Delbert and Abbie Oldham Waller on January 18, 1927, in Breckenridge, Texas. She graduated from Albany High School in 1944. She then went on to graduate from the University of North Texas with a degree in Home Economics in 1948. On June 12, 1948, she married John Quincy Corbett, Jr. of Caddo. The two resided at the Corbett family ranch thereafter where they built a cattle ranching operation and raised two children, Nancy Elizabeth Corbett Wells and John Quincy Corbett III.

Donna Jean started her career as Home Economics for the extension service in Graham. Thereafter she helped run the ranch with her beloved husband. She loved her life on the ranch in Caddo before retiring to Graham, Texas. While she was always a steady hand keeping things on track at the ranch headquarters, she also served as a steward and leader in her community. Donna Jean was an active adult volunteer in the local 4-H club. On Sundays, she played the piano at church. On Fridays, she played hymns at her assisted living facility. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, cooking, but mostly caring for others. Her life’s passion was making her community a better place.

Donna Jean was many things to many people, wife, mother, sister, Granny, mentor and teacher. However, she never forgot she was a child of God. As a member of the Breckenridge First Christian Church and later Westlake Chapel, she always found time to serve her Christian community.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Quincy Corbett, Jr.; son, John Quincy Corbett III; and brother, Clarence Waller.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Elizabeth Corbett Wells and husband Dr. Jake; her daughter-in-law, Jerry Corbett; her brother, Weldon “Jigger” Waller and wife Linda; sister-in-law Winifred Yates Waller; grandchildren, Dr. Robert Corbett and husband Dr. Lamon Custer, David Corbett and wife Kris Neal, Jed Wells and wife Jamie Wells, Ross Wells and wife Ann Razor, Abby Wells Raines and husband Stephen, and Cory Wells Wallace and husband Michael; and great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Quincy Claire, Tucker, John, Bentley, Winston, Wyatt and Zachary.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Johnny Corbett Memorial Scholarship at the First National Bank of Breckenridge. Condolences may be made online at www.meltonkitchens.com
