National Theatre to present musical ‘I Do! I Do!’ tonight, Nov. 2

The National Theatre of Breckenridge will present the husband and wife team of Kerry and Ashleigh Goff in a production of “I Do! I Do!” at 7 p.m. tonight, Saturday, November 2.

Tickets cost $15 each and can be purchased at the box office 30 minutes prior to the beginning of the performance. The historic theater is located at 116 E. Walker St.

The play is being presented in conjunction with the McMurry University Theatre Department and will feature musical accompaniment by Lora Lynn Christensen.

Kerry Goff is a Visiting Instructor of Theatre at McMurry University, and Ashleigh Goff is a theater instructor at the Abilene Performing Arts Company. They portray the ups and downs experienced by Agnes and Michael throughout 50 years of marriage in the musical “I Do! I Do!” by Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones.

Jones, a writer from Littlefield, and Schmidt, a composer from Dallas, teamed up to create the musical, which opened on Broadway in 1966 starring Robert Preston and Mary Martin, who was born in Weatherford. The musical is based on the play “The Fourposter.”

Kerry Goff earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in theater, focusing on acting and directing and minoring in musical theater, from McMurry University. While living in Abilene, he  worked at the historic Paramount Theatre in downtown Abilene as a stagehand working backstage for touring shows, concerts, community events, and musicals. Over the past 18 years, Kerry has performed in more than 100 acting roles, ranging from comedies to dramas to musicals.

He also was the artistic/technical director for the Fredericksburg Theater Company from 2010 to 2018, the instructor of the Teen Troupe theater class for Freddyburg Youth Theater from 2010 to 2018, and the theater arts teacher for Providence Hall School of Fredericksburg for the 2017-2018 school year.

Ashleigh Goff also earned a BFA in theater from McMurry University, focusing on acting and directing. She founded the Freddyburg Youth Theater at the Fredericksburg Theater Company and was the Education and Youth Theater Director for FTC from 2010 to 2018. She is an actor, musical theater choreographer and stage director.
