Friday night may be focused on the football team and the Homecoming Court, but Saturday is all about the Pride of Breckenridge Buckaroo Marching Band as they compete in the UIL Area Marching Contest in Denton. Fans and supporters of the band will gather in Foundation Park at the corner of Walker Street and Breckenridge Avenue at 8:30 a.m.

The band will receive an escort by the Breckenridge Fire Department and/or the Police Department, and the Breckenridge community is invited to join in the send-off.

The Breckenridge High School band earned a “1” or First Division, which is the top score, at the UIL Marching Contest in Mineral Wells on Oct. 19. That score earned them a spot at the UIL Area Marching Contest in Denton on Saturday, Oct. 26.

The contest will take place at C.H. Collins Athletic Complex, 1500 Long Road in Denton. The area competition has two stages, and the bands must score high enough at the prelims in order to advance to the finals. The BHS Band is scheduled to compete at 4:30 p.m. The bands that advance will perform between 6:20 and 9:45 p.m.

This year, the marching band has a record number of members, 121. The band has new uniforms and the 2019 contest show has a “Sweet Dreams” theme.

Earlier this fall, the Pride of Breckenridge Buckaroo Marching Band’s drum line won First Place at the Lake Country Thunder drum line and pit contest in Graham on Sept. 28. The band earned “Outstanding” awards for snares, basses and cymbals.
