With no game to prepare for on Friday night and district play still a week away,  the varsity Buckaroos football  team took some time on Monday evening to visit residents at the Villa Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center. During their visit, they talked with residents in the public areas and stop by to chat with several residents in their rooms.

While there, they also had to opportunity to meet a couple of special Bucks fans who are residents there. They met former Breckenridge High School Principle David Sullivan, who was also an assistant coach on some of the State Champion Buckaroos teams in the 1950s.

They also got to meet Buckaroos Super Fan Connie Swan, a long time resident at Villa Haven. Swan, who tunes into every Buckaroos game broadcast on the radio, discussed Buckaroos football with some of the players who were gathered around his bed, while other team members admired the many Buckaroos memorabilia items on display in his room.

Head Coach Casey Hubble, who joined the players during the visit, said the team has been making the trip to the nursing home during their off week every year he’s been here. He said the Breckenridge community does a lot to support the Buckaroos football team and this is a way for the players and the team to give back.

“You know, we spend a lot of time just focused on us; we just want to give back,” Hubble said. “This community does a lot for us. It’s just a way to teach kids how to serve.”
