Clara Jean McDonald, 76, passed away, Wednesday, September 18, 2019. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Clara was born on October 27, 1942, in Breckenridge, Texas, to parents H.W. (“Bud”) and Beulah (“Bean”) McDonald.

“Nanny,” as Clara was affectionately known, was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Vonnie Hight; brothers, Butch McDonald and Sonny McDonald (“Son”) McDonald and Rayburn E. McDonald (“Butch”); sister Willie Nell Mercer (“Sis”) and brother-in-law Marshal Mercer; sister Lafonne Berkley; brothers-in-law J.W. West (“Dub”), and Kenneth Berkley.

Clara is survived by lifelong friend Calvin Huffman; daughter and son-in-law, Frankie and David Harmon; son and daughter-in-law, Buddy and Betty McDonald; granddaughter Brandy and her husband Randal Chelstrom; grandson Cory Randal Pendleton; grandson David (“D.J.”) and wife Jennifer Harmon; nine great-grandchildren; a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins; and too many friends to name.

There were several notable places you’d find Clara throughout her life. You could find her in church at Gunsight Baptist Church. For 25 years, she was a cook at The Anchor in Breckenridge. Her love of cooking then took her to Sissy’s Café where she worked for 10 years. One thing you could always count on was that if you showed up to her house, whether you said you were hungry or weren’t, she was going to cook for you!

Memorial contributions can be made in her name to a charity of the donor’s choice. Condolences may be made at www.meltonkitchens.com
