BISD board receives accountability report, announces Students of the Month
The Breckenridge Independent School District Board of Trustees met last week for Interim Superintendent Earl Jarrett’s first local meeting.
Molly Johnson, Chief Learning Officer for BISD, presented the board with a report on the district’s 2019 Accountability Ratings from the Texas Education Agency. Although the district received a School Overview grade of a “B,” the individual schools scored lower, with the high school receiving a “C,” the junior high and South Elementary receiving a “D,” and North and East Elementary schools receiving an “F.” More details about the ratings are available online at https://txschools.gov/.
Johnson explained the rating system and the various domains on which the schools are graded. She said that North and East had already started working on a targeted improvement plan, which will be presented to the TEA later this month and to the BISD board at the October meeting. Additionally, East and North Elementary schools will host a public meeting on Thursday, Sept. 19, concerning the A-F Accountability Rating, which includes the Targeted Improvement Plan that will be used to increase student achievement. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. in the East Elementary cafeteria, 1310 E. Elm St., and will also include discussion about the Title 1 Parent/Teacher compacts.
“I think we need to continue to celebrate our overall district success,” Johnson said about the district’s response to the ratings. “But, we need to analyze each domain at each campus, and all the campuses, except for the high school, will begin their Effective Schools Framework. This is a continuous improvement plan that will be completed throughout the year.”
Next month, the board will meet on Oct. 21. The regular meeting date is a holiday, Columbus Day. Additionally, the board members will attend a training session on Oct. 16.
During the Sept. 9 meeting, the principals from the elementary schools and junior high recognized the following Students of the Month:
