James Edwin Mahan, better known as Big Jim, passed from this earth Sunday, September 1, 2019. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, September 5, at Morehart Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Melinda Lane officiating. Services are under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

Jim was born on October 4, 1960, to Mary Jo and Marion Mahan in Plattsburgh, New York, at 1:19 a.m. His mold was broken, and no one will ever come close to filling his shoes.

Jim was well known for his well-placed sarcasm, at least that’s what he thought. He was a man of his word and expected those around him to be as well. He was a huge flirt and loved a good laugh. He always put the love of his life, wife of 34 years, Mary Sue Mahan, first. He worked hard and was a loyal worker for Abilene Aerial Highlift, since the birth of the company. He always joked about how he loved to get high, just to see their reaction. He loved to tinker and build things. Those “things” are his loved ones’ now prized possessions.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his mother and father; two sisters; and one son, Charles Mahan.

Survivors include his best half, Mary Mahan; three children, Samantha and spouse James Randol, Little Jim and spouse Shana Mahan, and youngest Alex Mahan; nine grandkids; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles and spouse Becky Mahan; several nieces and nephews, including his niece, Bren-Bren and spouse Curtis Bryant and their three children.

Memorials may be made to the Wayland Volunteer Fire Department and may be left at Morehart Mortuary. Condolences may be made online at www.morehartmortuary.net.
