TSTC-Breckenridge celebrates 30th anniversary
Thirty years ago, Texas State Technical Institute opened up an extension center in Breckenridge, one of seven campuses outside the main campus in Waco. A couple of years later, the name was changed to Texas State Technical College.
Today, the TSTC-Breckenridge campus is a part of TSTC-West Texas, which also includes the Sweetwater, Abilene and Brownwood campuses.
On Friday, Aug. 30, the local campus celebrated its anniversary with a reception and luncheon for attendees. The school’s Technology Center featured several tables with scrapbooks and photos from the past 30 years.
TSTC Executive Vice Chancellor and Chief of Staff to the Chancellor Gail Lawrence and Provost of the Abilene, Breckenridge, Brownwood and Sweetwater campuses Rick Denbow attended the event and addressed the crowd.
“When I was thinking back about 30 years ago when the governor and the legislature created this extension center, and now campus, I’ll bet they had no idea that the community, the Breckenridge community and the surrounding area would support this facility and this campus for as long as y’all have,” Lawrence said. “I just want to tell you how deeply grateful we are for your support. We don’t take it lightly. It’s not a normal, everyday thing that a community comes out and supports us they way y’all have. So, I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you for all of our faculty and staff and for what you do for our students.”
Zach Maxwell, Chief of Staff for State Rep. Mike Lang, presented TSTC with a certificate honoring the 30-year anniversary.
“Thank you guys so much for everything that you do,” Maxwell said. “(We know) how much of a community builder this institution is. … It truly is an inspiring place, and the folks that come here, that learn here, they go on to do great things.”
