Breckenridge Independent School District Superintendent Tim Seymore was greeted by friends and co-workers at a reception in his honor on Wednesday. Seymore will be retiring from BISD at the end of this week.

Seymore came to Breckenridge in January 2015 from Navasota ISD. He has 31 years of experience as a math teacher, principal and superintendent. His wife, Mandy Seymore, also is leaving her position as the BISD District Services Secretary.

Although “travel” is on their agenda, Seymore said he and Mandy do not have definite plans yet for their futures.

During Seymore’s tenure, he was instrumental in involving the Breckenridge community with the school district, launching the Together is Better campaign last year. He was recognized by the community as Citizen of the Year, and the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce honored him at the annual awards banquet in February 2018. He was presented with the award by the previous honorees, Elaine and Virgil Moore.

Shortly after Seymore announced his retirement, the BISD board of directors voted to hire Earl Jarrett as the interim superintendent. Jarrett retired from the Brazos Independent School District in Wallis, west of Houston, in 2017. Before he was the Brazos ISD superintendent, Jarrett was the superintendent in the Spur ISD, east of Lubbock, according to the “Texas Government Insider.” In 2013 the newsletter reported that Jarrett also had been a teacher and coach at Temple ISD and at school districts in Itasca, Dublin and Tom Bean, as well as a principal for Llano ISD and Pilot Point ISD. He will start to work in Breckenridge on Sept. 2.

The BISD board plans to begin a search for a permanent superintendent this fall and have someone hired on or before June 1, 2020.
