U.S. Rep. Mike Conaway was in town Wednesday morning and spoke to the Breckenridge High School Class of 2020 shortly after 10 a.m. in Bailey Auditorium.

Conaway represents Texas’ 11th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, which includes portions of Breckenridge and Stephens County. Earlier this summer, Conaway announced that he will not seek re-election when his term ends in January 2021. The remainder of the county is in District 19 and is represented by Jodey Arrington.

During his talk with the BHS students, Conaway addressed issues such as the importance of being informed voters, the upcoming primary elections, Congress’ responsibilities, the U.S. Census, undocumented immigrants and social media.

Before addressing the senior class, Conaway met with the BHS Student Council members, as well as with the Breckenridge FFA officers, who presented the congressman with a Buckaroo plaque made by the BHS shop class and MLR Graphics.
