Parents and students get in back-to-school spirit at Buckaroo Bash

The first day of school is just 11 days away, and the Breckenridge community is gearing up for the new academic year. On Saturday, many parents and children attended the fourth annual Buckaroo Bash to register for school and gather information on several local organizations.

The event was hosted by Breckenridge Independent School District’s Student Health Advisory Committee and included booths by the schools, insurance providers, student organizations, local law enforcement and emergency medical services and more. Highway 183 Barber Shop provided haircuts.

The first day of school will be Thursday, Aug. 15. BISD has issued the school supply lists for the elementary schools and the junior high. Click on the links below for the lists for each school. East Elementary has the lists for Pre-K through first grade; North Elementary has the lists for second and third grades; South Elementary has the lists for fourth through sixth grades; and BJHS has the lists for seventh and eighth grades.

The lists can be printed or downloaded into your computer or phone for your convenience.

Additionally, SHAC is collecting school supplies for students who need a little extra help purchasing their supplies. For more information about making a donation, click here to read the Breckenridge Texan article. 

Here are some upcoming important dates regarding the new school year:

  • Aug. 6 — First pre-district varsity volleyball game.
  • Aug. 9-11 — Sales Tax Holiday for most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks (sold for less than $100). More details to come.
  • Aug. 9 — BHS juniors and seniors pick up schedules after 1 p.m.
  • Aug. 12 — Fish Camp — for 9th graders at BHS, 4:30-6 p.m., pick up schedules and tour campus
  • Aug. 12 — BHS sophomores pick up schedules after 1 p.m.
  • Aug. 13 — Bronco Roundup at BJHS
  • Aug. 13 — Meet the Teacher, at each of BISD’s three elementary schools, 1-6 p.m.
  • Aug. 15 — First day of school for Breckenridge
  • Aug. 16 — First Buckaroo varsity football scrimmage vs. Vernon, Buckaroo Stadium
  • Aug. 19 — Reserved seat football tickets go on sale,  8 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the administration office. Tickets will be sold only to last year ticket holders from Monday, Aug. 19, through Thursday, Aug. 29. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday, August 30.
  • Aug. 22 — Buckaroo varsity football scrimmage vs. Holliday at Eagle Stadium
  • Aug. 23 — Meet the Bucks
  • Aug. 30 — Reserved seat tickets for Buckaroo football games will go on sale to the general public.
  • Aug. 30 — First Buckaroo varsity football game vs. Jacksboro, Buckaroo Stadium
