The Breckenridge Intermediate Little League All-Stars kept their undefeated season alive as they beat the Midland Northern All Stars 9-8 Thursday night, July 11, in Abilene in the Texas West State Tournament – Intermediate Division.

Ashton Reyes ended the game with a dramatic double play at third base in the bottom of the seventh inning. Northern was at bat with runners on second and third base and only one out when O’Ryan Franco hit a line drive to Reyes, who caught the ball and then stepped on the third-base bag to make the forced out before the runner could make it back to the base. If Reyes had not caught the ball, the two runners could have scored and won the game for Midland.

During the game, Breckenridge had 9 runs, 8 hits, 2 errors and 7 men left on base. The Midland Northern All Stars had 8 runs, 6 hits 2 errors and 6 men left on base.

Breckenridge will move forward in the winners bracket, playing again tonight, Friday, July 12, at 8 p.m. in Abilene against East Brownsville, who defeated San Antonio Northside Suburban 14–2 in six innings on Thursday.

On Sunday, the winner of the Breckenridge-Brownsville game will play the winner of Saturday’s game to determine the champion.
