The Breckenridge High School varsity baseball team will compete for the Area Championship against the Anson High School Tigers next weekend, after winning the Bi-District Championship in a double-header sweep on Thursday, May 2.

The upcoming two-out-of-three series for the Area Championship will take place at Abilene Christian University. Game 1 will begin at 4 p.m. Friday, May 10, with Game 2 following 30 minutes after the end of the first game. If a third game is necessary, Game 3 will begin at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 11.

The Anson Tigers, with a season record of 20-8, won their three-game series against Early High School. Early won the first game 16-8, and Anson came back with two wins of 15-10 and 9-7.

The Breckenridge Buckaroos beat the Henrietta Bearcats in two games on Thursday in Henrietta. The games were moved to Henrietta after rain made the original Fort Worth location unusable.

In the first game, the Buckaroos beat the Bearcats 9-1 with 11 hits, 1 error and 4 runners left on base in the game. The second game ended after the fifth inning due to the 10 Run Rule with a score of 10-0. The Bucks had 9 hits, 2 errors and three runners left on base in the game.

After Friday’s games, the Buckaroos were mentioned on the national NBC Sports Radio show “The Daily Line” by BHS graduate and sportscaster Michael Jenkins. “Congratulations to the Breckenridge Buckaroos, and light that ‘B,’” Jenkins said, explaining to his co-host, Tim Murray, about Breckenridge’s “B” on top of First National Bank. Jenkins posted the following clip from the show to his Facebook page.
