Saturday is Election Day for BISD Board of Trustees
May 03
16:53 2019

For the first time in four years, the Breckenridge Independent School District will have an election for its Board of Trustees positions. Registered voters may cast their ballots between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday May 4, at the Administration office, 208 N. Miller St.

Early voting took place April 22-30, and there were 187 voters during that time period.

The last time more than one candidate ran for any of the school board positions was in 2015. When there is only one candidate per position, the school district does not have to hold an election. In 2016, 2017 and 2018, all of the candidates were unopposed.

In 2015, there was one opposed position, and there were 216 total votes casts — 96 in early voting and 120 on Election Day. In 2014, the school board election had one position with two candidates, and the election was held in conjunction with city and hospital board elections. That year, there were 827 votes for the school board, 494 in early voting and 333 on Election Day.

This year, there are three positions up for election  — Place 3, currently held by Carey Woodward; Place 4, currently held by Patrick Escalon; and Place 5, currently held by Russell Creager.

Slated to be on the ballot are:

  • Place 3 – Roy Russell
  • Place 4 – Patrick Escalon and Cody Wimberley
  • Place 5 – Russell Creager and Carrol Kanady

All three positions are for three-year terms and are at-large, which means that the voters may vote for all three places.
