Workers install new monument stone at Stephens County Veterans Memorial

On Wednesday, workers from the Brady Monument Company used a tractor to put a new stone in place at the Veterans Memorial in front of the Stephens County Courthouse.
The work of etching the decorative artwork and military symbols from the different branches of the service on the new stone is scheduled to begin today.
According to Roy James, Quarter Master and Adjutant for Breckenridge Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7767, the new stone cost $18,962. He said the money to purchase the monument was generated through fundraisers held by the local VFW post and through private donations. The new stone is expected be completely installed and all the etching finished by Memorial Day, James said.
The monument is updated each year with the names of local veterans who have died in the past year, and local members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Auxiliary, along with Stephens County residents, attend a ceremony to honor those veterans.
