Four BHS athletes qualify for State Track Meet next week in Austin

Four Breckenridge High School athletes will compete in the 2019 Track and Field State Meet next week in Austin after qualifying at the Regional Track Meet last week.

At the Region 1-3A Meet at Abilene Christian University’s Elmer Gray Stadium on April 26 and 27, Braden Campbell and Angel Ruiz came in first in their respective sports; Anna Reaugh placed second, and Kylee Willis placed third and qualified for the state meet as a wildcard. The top two places from each of the four regions automatically advance to state, and then a ninth competitor in each event is the best of the third place winners.

Campbell placed first with a 15-3 pole vault in Abilene and will compete at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 10.

Ruiz placed first in the 400 meter dash in Abilene with a time of 49.26. The 400 meter races will begin at 8:15 p.m. Friday, May 10, with the 1A teams followed by 3A.

Reaugh came in second in Abilene with an 11-0 pole vault. She will compete at 1 p.m. Friday, May 10.

Willis’ 5-7 high jump earned third place in Abilene, and then she qualified for State as the wildcard. She will jump at 10 a.m. Friday, May 10.

All of the state events will take place at the Mike A. Myers Track Complex on the University of Texas campus in Austin.

Also at the Regional Meet in Abilene: Willis placed fourth in the Long Jump; Campbell placed fourth in High Jump; Christopher Otts placed fifth in Pole Vault; the BHS girls 400 Meter Relay team placed sixth; the BHS girls 800 Meter Relay team placed sixth.
