Registration for Head Start program slated for next week
Breckenridge’s East Elementary School will host a registration day for the Head Start program from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, April 5.
The program is for 3- and 4-year-olds who qualify. Some of the qualifications include: Meets income guidelines, are on public assistance, has a disability, are in foster care or are homeless. Children enrolling in the program must be either 3 or 4 years old on or by Sept. 1, 2019.
Head Start is a federal program overseen by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It is designed to promote school readiness of children from low-income families. According to the Head Start website, each program is tailored to fit the needs of the community.
Locally, Head Start is a daylong program that focuses on school readiness, medical and dental exams, and help for parents wanting to achieve their GED.
To register, parents need to bring:
- The child’s birth certificate
- Immunization records
- Proof of TANF, SSI or Medicaid
- Parent or guardian’s photo ID
- Proof of residency
- Proof of income (2018 tax return and child support statements, if applicable)
