Texas State Technical College in Breckenridge will host an Open House and give away a $1,000 scholarship to a prospective student in attendance on Friday, March 8.

The Open House will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at TSTC, 307 N. Breckenridge Ave.

Daniel Martin, director of student recruitment for the West Texas TSTC campuses, said they expect around 300 students from area high schools to attend the program.

Tables featuring TSTC programs and student activities will be set up, with hands-on demonstrations and instructors available to answer questions. Other college representatives will talk about financial aid opportunities and help prospective students complete applications to enroll at TSTC.

A wind turbine simulator for the wind power program will be set up so that students can put on the gear and try it out. Additionally, there will also be four stations set up for the welding program, and students can put on the gear and try out different welding situations. There also will be live program demonstrations from other programs that the West Texas campus offers.

The Open House also will include a financial aid application workshop and other personnel on hand to assist with career services for military veterans and others. A representative from the Texas Workforce Commission will be at the event.

Debbie Karl, director of the Breckenridge campus, said although lots of high school students will attend the event, the program is open to the public and anyone who’s interested in any TSTC program is welcomed to attend.

A $1,000 scholarship will be given by random drawing to a prospective student in attendance who applies to attend TSTC on Friday.

Those who register at the Open House also will be entered to win giveaways, such as a Google Home mini and TSTC promotional items. Free gourmet popcorn will be available, along with a free lunch.
