Muriel Lethcoe, age 95 of Breckenridge, passed away Friday, March 1, 2019. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at First Baptist Church with Pastor Andy Rodgers and Larry Lethcoe officiating. Interment will follow in the Breckenridge Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

Zella Muriel Dowell was born December 4, 1923, in Johntown, Texas, to parents, Willie Virgil Dowell and Letha Bell Smith Dowell. She graduated from Breckenridge High School. On April 2, 1944, Muriel married Charles “Chuck” James Lethcoe in Gardena, California. She was a homemaker but had also worked for Peelers as a salesperson. Muriel was a member and very active at First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She was also a member of Woman’s Forum and the Senior Citizens Center. Muriel was kind hearted, loved cooking for people and was always willing to serve and help anyone.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Letha Dowell; her husband, Chuck Lethcoe; one son, Lynn Lethcoe; one brother, Edward “Slim” Dowell; and, two sisters, Virginia Griener and Billie Kimes.

She is survived by three children, Larry Lethcoe of Bedford, Ron Lethcoe and wife Trudy of Arlington, and Penne Hamblin and husband Dennis of Kingwood; one brother, James Dowell and wife Charlotte of Houston; nine grandchildren, Cari Middaugh, Tripp Lethcoe, Ashley Boyer, Harmony Bateman, Mindy Giles, Whitney Lambert, Rachel Lorenzo, Charlie Hamblin, and Rawley Hamblin; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Breckenridge Senior Citizens Center or to the Woman’s Forum and may be left at Morehart Mortuary. Condolences may be left at www.morehartmortuary.net.
